To our awesome City Life community…

5 yrs ago, a handful of people gathered together in Jono Harris’ bedroom to pray.
> None of us had ever worked for a church before.
> None of us had ever been involved in planting a church.
> None of us knew for sure that City Life was going to get off the ground.

We had no staff, no money, no equipment, no facilities, no structures and pretty much no idea

But we had an overwhelming conviction that there were not enough churches in Brisbane totally sold-out to reaching people far from God. Everybody desperately needs Jesus. And we could not sit by idly and watch our friends and family go to hell.

Over the coming weeks, we had more and more prayer meetings. A handful of people grew to about 15 people. I can still remember saying to our little group, we are going to pray that God raises up a core group of 50 Christians who can think of nothing better than to give their life to the cause of the gospel. There were many who doubted that this was possible…including me.

A month or so later, we held a ‘PUBLIC INFORMATION NIGHT’ for what was then known as the ‘KELVIN GROVE CHURCH PLANT’ (we were highly creative back then!!!). God had heard our cries, and 67 people rocked up.

If you were part of that group – THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!

You had no reason to trust us. There was every reason for us to fail. But you stepped out in faith, and you gave your life to a cause so much bigger than yourself.

That core group of people sacrificed so much…
> Many of them left thriving churches to come and help us get City Life off the ground.
> People gave and gave and gave. From day one, we had always been such a generous community.
> Without even being asked, everyone just jumped in and served…doing whatever was needed.

Over the coming years, we would make many mistakes. Some of them were really significant. Others were due to inexperience and lack of leadership. God was so gracious to us. I cannot speak enough of how much grace God has shown our church. We are so so grateful!!!

5 years later, this is where we are at…
> We’ve grown from 5 people to a community of well over 300 people.
> We’ve grown from 1 lounge group to 18 lounge groups
> We’ve grown from 1 Church to 2 Churches (and we are about to start a 3rd)
> Out budget has gone from $600/wk to $4800/wk
> We’ve gone from giving away $3000/yr to outside causes to $25,000/yr
> Our latest surveys show that we are having over 20% conversion growth per year
> According to the National Church Life Survey, we are the most evangelistic Baptist church in QLD.
> We currently have 70 people in leadership, with about 30 of these doing intentional leadership development.

SO WHERE TO FROM HERE?

We believe that God is calling us to plant more and more churches that will be effective in reaching people far from God.

THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT MARKS THE THIRD CHAPTER IN CITY LIFE’S HISTORY.

1. Pray and fast on Sunday for the new Church.
> We are having a prayer meeting this Sun, 5pm in the Creche room at Kelvin Grove

2. Invite others to the PUBLIC INFORMATION NIGHT

At this stage, all we have planned is the public information night. We will use this night to gauge interest and make a decision about the future. If you want it to happen, make sure you are there!!!
